From these, 24 studies were selected based on strict inclusion criteria, focusing on Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration data for cannabinoids.

  • CBD stood out as the most effective cannabinoid, with MICs as low as 0.65 mg/L.
  • The antibacterial potency of cannabinoids is linked to their structure-activity relationships.
  • Features such as the monoterpene region and aromatic carboxylic groups enhance CBD’s efficacy.

CBD’s Antibacterial Efficacy

The research underscores that Cannabidiol may be an effective tool in developing new therapies against resistant strains like Staphylococcus and Streptococcus.

Mechanisms and Challenges

The systematic review suggests that the intricate chemical structure of CBD, namely its aromatic alkyl side chain, plays a pivotal role in its antimicrobial activity.
