CBD Oil: Why is it better than capsules?

If you’re relatively new to the realm of CBD products, you’ll find this article to be particularly helpful. Navigating the diverse array of CBD forms can be quite bewildering, leaving you unsure about which type of CBD suits your preferences and needs.

Our aim is to delve into the distinctions between these two options, considering their advantages, disadvantages, and helping you make an informed choice based on your requirements: CBD tinctures vs. capsules.

CBD Oils & Tinctures

In short, CBD oils are concentrated liquid extracts that boast a high CBD content (and often other cannabinoids as well). Typically, CBD is suspended in a carrier oil such as hemp seed oil, olive oil, or MCT oil. These oils are contained within small glass bottles equipped with droppers for precise dosing. Tinctures are formulated for sublingual consumption, which involves placing a few drops under your tongue, holding them there for about 30 seconds, and then swallowing.

Advantages of CBD Tinctures:

  1. Rapid Absorption: When taken sublingually, CBD tinctures can swiftly bypass the digestive system and directly enter the bloodstream. This results in quicker effects compared to capsules. It allows you to experience the immediate benefits of rapidly absorbed CBD and the enduring advantages of CBD assimilated through digestion.
  2. Flexible Dosage: Tinctures offer the convenience of easily adjusting your dosage to find the optimal amount for your needs. This typically involves gradually increasing the number of drops under your tongue.
  3. Versatility: Beyond sublingual usage, tinctures can be seamlessly blended into beverages or food, granting versatility in consumption. They also serve as a base for crafting other CBD products like skincare items.

Disadvantages of CBD Tinctures:

  1. Flavour and Taste: The inherent taste of CBD tinctures, which can be earthy or bitter, might not be appealing to all users. Hemp-derived terpenes can contribute to a potent taste sensation that may feel harsh on the throat. Taste experiences can vary among different oil types.
  2. Measuring Accuracy: While the dropper enables precise dosing, achieving exact measurements can still pose a challenge, particularly for newcomers. There’s also a possibility of accidental over-squeezing, which may hinder accurate dosing for those seeking precision.
  3. Potential Messiness: It’s worth noting that CBD oils can sometimes be messy to handle. Occasional leakage and the need for skillful droplet placement under the tongue can add an element of complexity to the process.

CBD Capsules

CBD capsules primarily consist of pre-measured CBD oil or finely ground hemp, enclosed in a convenient and flavorless format for consuming CBD. These capsules resemble standard supplements or medications and are ingested whole with water. The options listed below.

Advantages of CBD Capsules:

  1. Tasteless and Odorless: CBD capsules are an excellent option for individuals who dislike the taste of CBD oil, as they completely eliminate any earthy flavor. This is particularly beneficial if the taste of the oil is off-putting to you.
  2. Easy Dosage: Capsules are available in pre-measured doses, streamlining the dosing process and ensuring consistent consumption. This level of precision allows you to accurately gauge your daily CBD intake.
  3. Portability: Capsules are discreet and can be effortlessly carried in a pocket or purse, facilitating on-the-go usage. Their appearance is inconspicuous, resembling typical fish oil capsules.

Disadvantages of CBD Capsules:

  1. Slower Absorption: Capsules need to navigate through the digestive system before CBD can enter the bloodstream. This might lead to a delayed onset of effects. Initially, a significant portion of the CBD is also lost during digestion. However, once CBD enters the bloodstream, its effects tend to last for an extended period.
  2. Fixed Dosage: Unlike tinctures, capsules come with predetermined doses, limiting the flexibility to adjust the CBD amount according to individual requirements.

CBD tinctures and capsules each come with their own set of advantages and disadvantages, as highlighted in the sections above. CBD tinctures offer quick absorption and the ability to easily adjust your dosage, whereas capsules offer convenience and a lack of taste.

Ultimately, the decision between CBD tinctures and capsules hinges on personal preferences, lifestyle, and the specific effects you’re seeking. If we talk about me personally, I prefer oil precisely because it is better and faster  absorbed into the body system.
